moody ethereal seductive: my *boudoir*
it seems only appropriate for my first *real* post on this blog to be about my bedroom – since this blog is really an ode to spending hours in your room alone, curled up watching movies or youtube or reading, listening to music, writing in your journal, dressing up or lounging in pjs or lingerie. whatever.
you can find shopping links and inspo photos for this room on this pinterest board but keep in mind a lot of items were vintage/secondhand.
I moved into this apartment in 2021, but a lot of the pieces in this room were purchased for other apartments. I love how everything came together here.
this vintage lingerie chest that I found on apt deco was originally purchased to fit in a really narrow space next to a closet in my 2019 studio apartment.
also purchased while I lived in that apartment:
- the crate & barrel sheepskin rug (yummm)
- the cut-metal flower artwork above the bed – an amazing find at the free people 5th avenue store. they occasionally sell store display items for cheap cheap prices, these were $3 each and have looked amazing in my every apartment since
- the bed: an upholstered west elm bedframe+headboard called "the lana" in distressed mauve velvet
the bed has driven me a little bit crazy since I got it. online and in the store, the velvet looked more pink. my actual bed came from a dyelot that was a bit more purple. we'll get to that in a minute.
the 1930s lace curtains are from etsy – they're the same color and material, but they're not a matching pair, the left curtain has a shell pattern and the right curtain has a floral pattern and is much longer. I bought the curtains for my 2020 apartment, and found the vintage 1970s macrame curtain tiebacks on etsy when I moved into this apartment.
the mirrored nightstands are from wayfair (I usually avoid wayfair, but the room is pretty tiny and it's extremely hard to find nightstands that are 12" wide!). the agate coasters are from anthropologie, and the wooden altar drawers on my windowsill were found on a stroll through greenpoint a few years ago.
it took me forever to choose a color to paint this room – I ordered at least 5 paint samples. at first I wanted to go with a pink/purple color, but every color I swatched just made the bed look more purple, which I didn't love. the dark grey I eventually chose was inspired by arianna danielson's gorgeous moody bedroom on instagram. (originally I swatched a true black, but it was waaay too dark. the color I went with is "ancestral" from behr.)
and then, the finishing touch! the photoreal floral duvet cover was actually the last major piece I bought for this room. I found it on ebay; it's the blooma duvet cover from the ashley woodson bailey x cb2 collection. I'm OBSESSED with how the purples match the bed, the greys match the walls, and the cream matches my lingerie chest. now I have an ebay alert going for the pillow shams.
